Hand-in-Hand Cable Vest - Fini!!

Yippee! Yeah! Hurray! I can't tell you how pleased I am both that the vest is done and how nice it came out. Without further ado:
Details:
Pattern- Hand-in-Hand Cable vest, IK Summer 2007; I made the largest size without any mods
Yarn - Two and about 1/2 skein of Cascade Ecological wool in the dark grey
Mod: Well, I made one modification. I put my stepdad's initials (TD) in the lower right. This pic is before blocking so it is a bit hard to see, but it is there. I wanted it to be barely noticable unless you knew about it. Kind of a knitting inside joke. Sad, right?! You can see it in the full size pic above, but here is a close up.

I also found a great button to the squaty sidekick from the other day. I actually got a whole bag of buttons on clearance at Joanns. Ther are vintage replicas, very neat.

Now, I'll be working on another sample knit bag. The yarn came yesterday. Perfect timing. I don't have to feel guilty about putting the vest aside and I'll have a bit of time to think about which big project to start next.

Squatty Sidekick

No, not me. This is the name of the pattern for a really cute felted bag. I made two this weekend. The great thing (or one of the great things) about it, is it uses less than a skein of Cascade 220 and is great for the random color skeins that I seem to collect. Also great to make stripey with the leftovers from each bag. Pink bag was left drying at the Cape (oops) but this one is here and ready for the camera. All I need to do is pick the perfect button. We had lots of fun at the Cape this weekend. The kids and I met Rosemary Wells of Max and Ruby fame. Both kids picked a book and had it signed. They even posed for a picture! I am ALMOST at the end of T's vest. Just about 10 more rows. I will take a picture tomorrow of the finished front (how is that for optimism!). And I started a scarf size clapotis with a skein of CTH Foxy Lady worsted weight silk/merino. Oh, ah, lovely.

Ack, a Whole Week!

The last week has been crazy around these parts. Spent the weekend knit time reading Harry Potter. I really enjoyed it. I am trudging along on T's Hand-in-Hand Cable vest from Summer IK. Just got to the armholes last night, so the end is in sight. I'll take a picture if I can find that camera.... I also made an adorable bag. I can't recall where I got the pattern, but it might have been knitting daily. It is a felted handbag made from just under 1 skein of Cascade 220. I just adore it. Took me two days of swim class to finish it up. It is drying and still needs just the right button! Promise to take pictures when I get back (yup, the Cape. yup, again). Since I hate no pic posts, here is one of P that was in the paper this week from his time in Safety Town. And just so A doesn't feel left out, here is one I took of her watching the Safety town graduation.

Safety Town

P graduated form Safetytown today. This is a week long program (1.5 hr a day) where kids entering Kindergarten learn about fire, bus, etc safety. They practice street signs by riding big wheels in a pretend town. They go for a bus ride, sit in a fire truck, and get to turn on the police sirens. They use this really neat pretend phone system to practice calling 911. A went last year and I went more years ago then I care to remember. I still remember when I went! So, here is P on graduation day.On the knitting front, I have overcome my lethargy and am back to working on T's vest. I am about halfway to the armholes. I keep telling myself that I'll be done soon. It's funny. I actually enjoy knitting on it until I look and see that an evening of work (from the kids bedtime at 7:30 to mine at 9:30) consists of about 1 inch!! Maybe a bit more. Ah well. At least there aren't sleeves! I promise a pic of the progress tomorrow. Though I hope to grab Harry Potter out of my husband's hands and may make little knitting progress this weekend!

Tada!

The pattern is from the author of Itty Bitty Hats, and can be found on her blog (http://susanbanderson.blogspot.com/2007/04/page-18-elefante.html). He is made with odd bits of worsted weight wool yarn on US4s.

Mittens, Maps, and a Critter

Home again, again! I got some work done on some small projects for the winter craft fairs. I started and mostly finished two pairs of wool mittens (size 2-4 and size 4-6). They still need finishing and decorating (to look like crazy bugs), but that part is quick and fun!I also knit these pieces. I used a bunch of different scraps of wool yarn (mostly Cascade 220 and a bit of Patons). Come back tomorrow and see what they become (hint...another critter)!

And what you all (well some of you!!) are here for! We are doing a summer project trying to collect postcards from all the states and as many foreign countries as we can. When we get a card, we read it and look at the picture. Then we find it on the map (or globe), and color it in on our map. Finally, the card gets put into a special photo album. Some of the cards have prompted google searchs for more info (like the Northern Lights!). So thanks everyone. Also, if your state is not yet represented, leave a comment (or email me) and I'll get the address out to you!
These maps are current to today, July 15th, 2007.

A long weekend

Well, my sister's wedding was beautiful. It was at Jonathon Edwards Winery in North Stonington , CT. Just beautiful. I had my hair done (first time, and what fun!!). With a little free time on Friday after the rehersal and dinner and on Saturday before my hair appointment, I made myself a Tomato from No Sheep For You!! I didn't have enough of any one cotton. But then I thought STRIPES!!

I used TLC Plus, less than 1 skein each of mint, cream, and pink. I just alternated 2 rows of each following the smallest size. I'd read to build in negative ease. The 31.5 fit me perfect (I'm about a 35"). I love it!!! (goofy pic was taken by A)

I also promised a picture of these critters. Owls from crafty alien over on etsy. I got this pattern from a very sweet knittyhead and now think I must buy others to build a little forest family! The only change was to use fabric paint for eyes and beak (my kids would tear the glued on stuff right back off!!)

Now, back to our story!

I know, long time no post. But I have excuses (lots of 'em). We spent Thursday to Monday at the Cape (again). I did finish the back of T's vest. It is looking lovely. I have also been working on yet another scarf using the my so called scarf pattern. This weekend is my stepsister's wedding, so I'll be gone until Monday. But I will lure you back with this picture of the back of T's vest:
and a promise of little critter pictures upon my return (knit ones, that is). Until then,

HAPPY 4th of JULY!!
